The first activity within this campaign took place on Saturday, 12 April, at the Gerontology Centre at Bezanijska kosa. This old age home operates within the framework of the Gerontology Centre of Belgrade and is currently the largest institution of this type in the Balkans, with over 500 residents.
The amphitheatre located in the yard of the gerontology centre, surrounded by nature and foliage, is a favourite gathering place for residents. For many years this amphitheatre served as a venue for theatre plays, choral concerts and other events, and it is precisely for this reason that it holds a very important place in the social and cultural life of this old age home. Unfortunately, in spite of its significance, this amphitheatre has grown increasingly dilapidated over the years due to lack of funding.
One of the reasons for this is that our society does not pay enough attention to the elderly members of our communities. As a socially responsible company KPMG is aware of this problem, and when we were presented with the photographs of the amphitheatre, we had no qualms about deciding to help in its reconstruction.
To celebrate the opening of the reconstructed amphitheatre, residents of the Gerontology Centre were joined by around 50 KPMG employees. A choral concert was held, followed by a short play, with speeches made by the Centre’s manager, Ms Bankica Jovanovic, and KPMG d.o.o. Beograd Senior Partner, Ms Nina Bulatovic. After the entertainment, a employees toured the old age home and got to spend some time with its residents. We are very glad not just for the opportunity to provide these people with financial assistance, but also for having spent a beautiful day together to mark this new beginning.
The reconstruction of the amphitheatre is only the first in a series of activities planned for this year. In this way KPMG wishes to contribute to the community in which it has been operating successfully for over 11 years. Besides this, KPMG’s objective, as the slogan itself suggests, is to initiate projects of this sort and to invite the public and other companies in Serbia to identify the most disadvantaged target groups, to invest in these types of projects, and to contribute to greater care for society and the environment.
Unite the World – Share the Responsibility
KPMG in Serbia has started a CSR campaign entitled: “Unite the World – Share the Responsibility”. Four activities within the campaign are planned for this year. Each activity targets one social group that is most in need of our help and the help of society.
